A man and a woman were on Tuesday arrested over allegations of attempting to extort money from a Makerere University lecturer.
Plain-clothes security personnel arrested Jinny Kaitesi on Kampala Road, while Victor Kisitu aka Victor Miclovic, was picked up from Nakawa.

Kira Road police station chief James Ruhweza said the suspects were later released on bond. He said they allegedly attempted to extort sh50m from Benon Kigozi, a senior lecturer in the department of arts and film.

According to Kigozi, on August 25, he received an e-mail from Kisitu, who claimed to be a Russian expatriate working and residing in Uganda.

In the message, Kisitu reportedly told Kigozi that he had impregnated Kaitesi and that if Kigozi did not send him the money, he would “expose” him in the media.

Although Kigozi said he knows Kaitesi, he denied being sexually involved with her.

Overwhelmed by the demands, Kigozi notified the police, hence the arrest.
