Three suspected thugs were on Friday killed by security operatives in Mubende district when they allegedly attempted to rob passengers on the Mubende-Kakumiro road.

The incident occurred at Mayinja-Abiri, about 20km from Mubende town. Mubende district Police commander Enock Abaine said the Police acted after a tip-off that robbers had set up a road-block, attempting to rob passengers.

“When a vehicle occupied by officers of the Rapid Response Unit arrived, the suspected thugs tried to rob them, not knowing who they were. This is when the operatives fired at them. Two of the suspected robbers escaped and three were killed instantly,” Abaine said.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mubende Hospital mortuary but by Saturday, their identities were not known.

Abaine said they recovered two fake guns that the suspects used to frighten their victims.
