PRINCE John Barigye of Ankole is in negotiations with his wife Denise Kwezi to settle their divorce out of court

Diana Nabuuso, a Prince Barigye’s attorney, said the negotiations between the two parties are in advanced stages.

Nakawa Chief Magistrate Charles Sserubuga last week told the lawyers representing the two parties to advise their clients to amicably settle the dispute without going into litigations. Kwezi, Barigye’s estranged wife is represented by Ladislaus Rwakafuuzi.

The Magistrate said settling the case out of court was the best option available to the couple other than exposing their affairs in public.

Nabuuso said she was optimistic that the matter would be settled but she did not disclose the details discussed.

The lawyers will yet again appear before the magistrate at later date and brief him of the outcome of the case.

In his divorce suit filed at Nakawa Court, Barigye stated that he made several attempts towards restoring marital harmony, but his wife Kwezi neither had the willingness nor the desire to resume the marriage. He contends that the marriage has now irretrievably broken down with no hope.

Barigye wants court to dissolve their marriage and custody of their four children be granted to him and any other relief court may deem fit.

The petition is also supported by affidavit sworn by Barigye’s former maid Sawiya Nanyonga who lived with the couple in their matrimonial home in Bbunga, Makindye Division a city suburb, for nine years.

In her affidavit, Nanyonga stated that when Barigye was away in Mbarara, his wife Kwezi while still married to him occasionally brought other men to their house in Kalungu who spent the night with her in the couple’s bedroom.

Kwezi has however, rebutted the claims that she was engaged in extra-marital affairs with other men as Barigye alleges.

Kwezi also accused Prince Barigye of committing adultery with other women and abandoning her.

Kwezi said the allegations of adultery against her were not true, but only meant to annoy her and lower her in the estimation of the Ankole society. She asked court to dismiss the petition with costs.
