Banana farmers in Kashambya sub-county, Kabale district have been urged to remain vigilant in the fight against banana bacteria wilt disease. They have been advised to curb the spread of the disease by destroying the affected plants. The call was made by the district chairman, Patrick Besigye, in an interview on Monday. The disease has hit almost all of the six parishes in Kashambya. The affected plants often turn yellow and eventually wither before the fruits mature.

Storm kills one in Ibanda
One person died and property worth millions of shillings was destroyed when a storm hit Rukiri sub-county, Ibanda district. The incident occurred at around 4:00pm on Friday. The deceased was identified as Rogers Kato, 6, a son to Seriano Setara of Kitengure village in Mpasha sub-county. Kato was buried by rubble in a destroyed house. Ibanda district chief Melichiadis Kazwenge said the affected villages included Kyanika, Kitengure, Kyabukyengire and Mabonwa. Others were Kinanura, Karangara, Rwengorogoro and Rwabarisa.

Floods cut off six villages
Several villages in Kyankwanzi district have been cut off by floods following heavy rains on Sunday.
The worst hit villages were in Kitabona and Gayaza sub-counties. They were Degeya, Kitwala, Nzo, Sirimula, Kayindiyindi and Kigalama. River Mpongo, which separates Kitabona and Gayaza, burst its banks, ruining gardens and destroying bridges and homes. Kitabona LC3 chairperson only identified as Labson on Monday said the villages were cut off after the river flooded at Kigambajege bridge.
