Secondary schools in Kigezi region will not participate in this year’s national science fair competition. The announcement was made by the chairperson of the head teachers association for the mid-western region, Humphrey Ahimbisibwe.

This came after the schools did not turn up for the regional science fair competition attended by only 22 schools in Ankole region at Ntare School in Mbarara on Saturday.

The participants came from the districts of Mbarara, Isingiro, Bushenyi and Sheema.

They exhibited science projects in mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics and agriculture.

St. Andrew’s Rubindi SS emerged the winners with their presentation of radio technology and transmission of electromagnetic waves.

They beat the first runners-up Masheruka Girls SS, which excelled in baking millet cakes and second runners-up Sacred Heart Mushanga, which excelled in making herbal toothpaste.

A total of 10 schools qualified to compete in the national science fair competition due on September 20 at the National Museum in Kampala.
