Three Abim brothers jailed for murdering brother

Three brothers have each been sentenced from two to five years for murder. Court on Friday heard that on March 17, 2008, Dominic Omugetum, 39, Jimmy Opio, 25, and Felix Obura, 46, all brothers to the deceased murdered Mathew Omugetum at Rackoko North ward in Abim district.

Three brothers have each been sentenced from two to five years for murder. Court on Friday heard that on March 17, 2008, Dominic Omugetum, 39, Jimmy Opio, 25, and Felix Obura, 46, all brothers to the deceased murdered Mathew Omugetum at Rackoko North ward in Abim district.

Lady Justice Margaret Oguli Oumo sentenced Obura to five years, Opio to three, while Omugetum got a two-year sentence.

She said on the fateful day, Omugetum’s clan members including the accused met at his home to resolve a domestic dispute between him and his wife.

Court heard that Omugetum who was not pleased with the clan’s intervention ordered all his brothers to leave his compound.

Oguli said the accused got sticks and beat Omugetum before leaving his compound. Court also heard that the deceased sustained head injuries which led to his death.

All the accused pleaded guilty and asked court to give them a fair sentence.
