UGANDA narrowly missed another All Africa Games team gold in Mozambique last Thursday.

This, was in Zurkhaneh, a new sport at the quadrennial event where Uganda put up a brilliant show only to be denied the teams’ top spot because of an incomplete entry. Uganda had only five instead of seven competitors that make a team.

Zukhaneh is a non contact sport that tests mental and physical strength of competitors.

It gained Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA) admission this year.

Individual gold from Zubair Nsubuga (power lifting) and Nobert Mugagga (chuck bell) and silvers from Jonah Mugwisa, James Mugagga and Zubair Nsubuga together with bronze medals from Okrah Kulikayo and Mugwisa nevertheless gave Uganda the overall silver.

“Uganda undoubtedly put up a brilliant show but missed the top prize because of an inferior numbers,” noted IZSF International Development Director Samrat Singh.

Kenya that had a full team emerged champions.

Uganda zurkhaneh boss Eddie Gombya explained that he could not field a full side because some players lacked passports.
