The National Resistance Movement (NRM) will consider expelling members who the party discovers are frustrating government programmes.

President Yoweri Museveni has warned leaders from his party who side with the opposition to frustrate government programmes that they will be "sorted out".

He said the biggest challenge now for the country is to have responsible and genuine leaders who know what to do and not those of do "poko poko" (empty talk). He suggested that fresh elections be held to replace anyone in NRM considered to be a saboteur.

The president, who is the NRM national chairman, was yesterday meeting various NRM supporters to rally support for NRM flag bearer Patience Mubangizi for the Entebbe Municipality seat in a bi-election due on September 29, 2011.

The Entebbe Municipal seat fell vacant recently after the
Electoral Commission nullified the election of Mohammed Kawuma as MP in the February 2011 Parliamentary elections citing electoral irregularities.

“I know you have problems but these are as a result of some of your leaders," he told the group. The meeting was attended by all NRM members of Parliament in Wakiso district.

"The leaders who bring problems are two; those in the opposition who have perfected lies, hypocrisy and have never helped Uganda. They only paralyze work and turn around to criticize. For example electricity is a problem now, who started it, the opposition. They didn’t know that by sabotaging these programmes, you are sabotaging the lives of the ordinary people."

He added that the second category of saboteurs are those of the movement who support the opposition and those who keep quite in the face of criticism and do not speak out.

"I’m not just sitting but when I get back it is my own people who are some of those frustrating government programmes, it does not make any sense. They will be sorted out and if not will be expelled from the party and if need be we hold fresh elections,” he said.

He gave a lengthy background to various challenges facing the country including sugar shortages and electricity that have been affected by what he said was negative propaganda. He however said Ugandans have been well looked after with a healthy population growing from 14 million to now 36 million.

He criticized leaders who get to parliament and forget the real issues affecting ordinary people and urged residents of Entebbe Municipality in Wakiso district to forget their political and any other differences and unite in support of the NRM Party flag bearer, Mubangizi for development.
