Makerere University has begun a programme to train farmers address effects of climate change to enable them boost production.

The university, through the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (CAES), will partner with the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network, the ministry of agriculture, animal industry and fisheries and the Climate Change Unit to deal with the changing climatic conditions in regard to farming.

The programme of training farmers will start from Mbale and will target grass-root farmers, who according to experts, have become vulnerable to climatic changes.

The Principal CAES, Prof. Samuel Kyamanywa said at a one-day workshop at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on Friday that there was need for an agriculture climate change forum to boost the efforts of agriculture.

The forum, he explained, would help rural farmers adapt to the ever changing weather conditions and advocate for policies that will enhance agriculture production.
