Jinja starts tree planting campaign
Jinja Municipal Council authorities have started planting trees and flowers along streets in a campaign to beautify the town. Over 200 trees have been planted along Nalufenya Road. The town clerk, Francis Barabanawe, told New Vision last Friday that the exercise will cost sh50m. He also said they would buy rubbish bins to be placed at various places in the town. Barabanawe also warned residents against growing food crops along streets, saying they would face the law. “I have directed all those who had turned road reserves into gardens to stop. We want to beautify the town,” he said.

Bugiri gets sh360m for water
The Government has given sh360m to Bugiri district for drilling 20 boreholes. The move is aimed at providing safe water to the community. Bukooli Central MP Wafula Oguttu said many people in the district walk over 4km in search of clean water. He welcomed the move, saying it will reduce the distance residents move to get clean water. Wafula, however, said the Government had exaggerated the cost of drilling the boreholes. He argued that sh360m could be used to drill over 60 boreholes.
