EDITOR: President Yoweri Museveni's statement that MPs should back off the oil agreements debate is most unfortunate!
Museveni is quoted to have said: “Oil was discovered just the other day.

Suppose we had not discovered it what would people be talking about?” I cannot beleive it! I am sureMuseveni knows the Runyakitara proverb, "Ekitaroho tikiriza mwaana" meaning something that is not available does not cause problems.

Now that oil has been discovered there is certainly need for the Government to be transparent in its dealings with the exploration companies. Furthermore, history has it that in most countries where the “black gold” has been discovered, there has been insecurity and massive corruption.

Nigeria is one such example. Uganda cannot be an exception. Given the level of 'official' corruption in Uganda nothing should be left to chance! Only yesterday, so to speak we lost almost sh3b to a ghost Indian company!

The MPs are right to call for a special parliamentary session to discuss the oil agreements.
