Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) on Monday launched the demolition exercise of illegal structures in the city center and its suburbs.

The affected structures and premises are those that were constructed without the city authority and those that have failed to pay business permit.

KCCA deputy physical planner, George Agaba said the exercise would last for a couple of weeks.

“We have already started with Bugolobi flats. We have razed most of the illegal structures that were constructed there,” he said.

He said the despite resistance from some owners, KCCA would go on with the exercise. The affected owners of the structure complained and accused KCCA of breaking their structures illegally.

Brian Bigirwa owner of Gabiro club at Bugolobi flats said that law enforcers from KCCA came at 1.00pm and forcefully entered his club before they pulled down the structure.

“These law enforcers came in and started breaking my structures without prior warning. They later wrote a notice and took off before the crowd gathered at the scene, “he said. Bugirwa said that they leased the place from National Housing who owns the land in the area.
