Common Man's Party (CMP) presidential candidate Mubarak Munyagwa has repeated his stance on undocumented foreign nationals, saying any found without valid documents will be deported within 48 hours under his presidency.

The first-time presidential candidate said some foreigners arrive claiming to be investors intending to open up factories in Uganda, but that instead they end up becoming shop traders.

"That is unacceptable. If you are a foreigner without legal documents, you would be deported within 48 hours time."

Munyagwa was addressing a mini rally after making a stopover at Kabale market in Kabale Municipality in Kabale district on Saturday (November 1).

On his campaign trails, the CMP frontrunner has repeatedly said one of the first things he will do once he gets to State House is to have the incarcerated People's Front for Freedom (PFF) leader, Dr Kizza Besigye, released.

The veteran opposition politician has been on remand in jail since last November, facing charges of illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and treachery. He was charged alongside his aide, Obeid Lutale.

In Kabale, meanwhile, former Kawempe South MP Munyagwa was critical of NRM wealth creation programmes, including the Parish Development, Emyooga and Entandikwa. He claimed they have failed to achieve the intended result.

He said that when he becomes the president, errant top police commanders would be dismissed for "mishandling opposition politicians".

Munyagwa introduced the PPF flagbearer for the Kabale Municipality parliamentary race, Gideon Tumwesigye and urged the residents of Kabale to vote for both CMP and PFF candidates in the 2026 general elections.
