A meeting called by the Electoral Commission to address concerns arising during the campaign period is currently underway.

The session, chaired by Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama, has brought together agents of all eight presidential candidates, along with senior leaders from the Uganda Police Force.

Candidates now have only 40 days left to campaign.

Opening the meeting at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala, Justice Byabakama faulted some candidates for repeatedly violating campaign guidelines — conduct he says has contributed to rising tension on the campaign trail.

Justice Byabakama also criticised the police for blocking some candidates from accessing campaign venues, saying such actions undermine the fairness of the electoral process.
