SERERE | FISHERIES | CELEBRATIONS

The belated national celebrations for World Fisheries Day were held in the Serere district on Friday.

Marked every November 21, the day is dedicated to highlighting the critical importance of healthy water bodies and ensuring sustainable stocks of fisheries around the world.

In Serere, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja was expected to grace the event as the chief guest at the district headquarters.

Also present was the state minister for fisheries Hellen Adoa.

Traditional dancers entertained guests, and Margaret Opol, a former LC5 seat candidate, joined a traditional dance called Ajosi while holding up a fish.

The celebration was held under the theme 'Promoting fish farming for improved household incomes.

The theme highlights the increased production and consumption of fisheries products that have had a critical contribution to food security, nutrition, and immediate and long-term benefit on people’s incomes and the economy.
