Kampala Hockey Club Swans' mission to clinch this year’s national hockey league title is going to be put to test today when they face Weatherhead Gazelles.
Swans beefed up their squad with prolific players in sisters Winnie Alaro and Lucky Akello who have changed the playing style and have already earned the side two titles in the Women’s Day Cup and Easter Cups titles although their main targets are the national league and Uganda Cup titles.
Swans assistant coach Dulf Musoke believes his side is in the right form to humble Gazelles based on the skills and experience of his players.
“We are more than ready to take on Gazelles and win the tie and we have the attacking force that can help us fulfill our mission,” Musoke stated.
Musoke, the former Makerere University Eagles and Stingers coach now back home at Swans believes his side has better goal-scorers.
“They should expect a win with more goals since our strikers are in fine form and hope to score for fun,” Musoke said.
Swans' striking force is led by Lucky Akello, Sandra Namusoke, and Lilian Nakintu and they also have a formidable midfield that always blocks the defenders and keepers from being penetrated through by opponents.
However, Gazelles are not an easy opponent for them since they currently top the log in the women’s category although this is their second season in the league.
Gazelles coach Topher Kyamanywa is optimistic that his side can keep putting up a good show and retain their top-of-the-summit position in the league by beating the Swans.
“It is going to be one bumpy ride for us today as we verse Swans but our current position gives us the motivation to get some more three points although it won’t come on a silver platter,” confirmed Kyamanywa.
Gazelles top the league with 10 points accumulated from four games while Swans are in fifth place coming after last season’s league champions Deliverance Church of Uganda (DCU) at leveled points but separated by a goal difference of 12 for DCU and three for Swans.
