Ishmail Wainwright rejoined the Phoenix Suns after a two-week absence from the side to grieve the passing of his father, but he was not selected for the clash with the Miami Heat.

The Suns lost 113-112 away to the Heat, with Jimmy Butler blocking a potential game-winner from Phoenix star Devin Booker, who was able to get off a three-point attempt which fell short as time expired.

Wainwright’s absence from the Suns’ lineup stretched his wait for a first appearance of the season to 13 games, although his number will probably be called soon as Phoenix are currently in a bit of an injury crisis.

Yesterday Wainwright posted a tweet of gratitude for the messages of comfort he has received in this period, saying, “Everyone’s thoughtful words of condolence have acted as a source of strength for me during this difficult time, and I am going to miss my Popz, my OG, my superman, my Twin, and now my Guardian Angel. I love you and I miss you…”

Wainwright has inspired the Uganda Silverbacks over the last two years, excelling at the Afrobasket and reaching the final stage of the FIBA Africa World Cup qualifiers.
