Midfielder Esther Nangendo was the difference as Kawempe Muslim beat UCU Lady Cardinals 1-0 in the FUFA Women Super League on Saturday.

Star midfielder Nangendo who was making her first appearance of the season, was an instant difference-maker for Kawempe and she praised the team’s ethic.

“We played well and I want to thank my teammates since we worked as a team. We deserved a win since we got many chances, especially in the first half. This was my first game in the season and I was able to make an impact on the team,” noted Nangendo.

Allen Nassazi scored the only goal of the match at the start of the second half as Kawempe Muslim picked up its third win of the season.

Kawempe Muslim assistant coach Moses Nkata sang Nangendo's praise.

“This was the first game she played and she added a lot to the team. If she had started the first round, she would have contributed a lot to us. She added some flair in midfield. We are looking to other engagements to come,” noted Nkata.

For UCU, they did not do enough to trouble Kawempe but attacker Ashiat Nalugwa who has been UCU’s key player this season with seven goals said they will need to double their efforts.

“That is not what we wanted. In the next games, we are going to fight harder. I want to score eight goals in the second round so that I reach my target of 15 goals this season. It was a good experience and we shall bounce back stronger,” Nalugwa said.

The victory saw Kawempe Muslim move to sixth with 13 points just, like fifth-placed Lady Doves who have a better goal difference. UCU remains third with 16 points.

Elsewhere, Shila Galenda was on target as Lady Doves went down 1-0 to Olilia at Katushabe ground in Masindi.

The league resumes Sunday with table leaders Kampala Queens on 27 points travel to Kampala Quality School to take on Asubo Gafford.
