Fort Portal City has unveiled plans to host the Pearl of Africa rally.

Fort Portal Municipality member of Parliament disclosed this at a media briefing at Kyakaigo Sports Arena on December 30, 2022, ahead of the rider’s day out.

“Fort Portal is a tourist City. We have hosted rally twice here, we are now hosting motocross and we have started plans to host the Pearl of Africa rally,” Ruhunda said.

“We are a young City and we want to use sports Tourism to market our city worldwide. We have the facilities and we are going to build more to be able to meet the growing demands,” he added.

He added that they have together with the City leadership contacted the Private sector and the businessmen in the Tooro region to understand the value of sports.

“We have discussed this with the business community, the estate owners have started working on the roads and once we are informed of hosting the Pearl of Africa rally, we are ready,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Motocross riders are ready to showcase their skills on New Year’s Eve.

The racers had practice on the track and motocross coach Shafik Senoga told Vision Sport that the track is good and will give racers a new experience.

Unlike Busiika, Garuga, and Kasanje which are on a flat Terrain, the Fortportal track is on a hill and riders will have to adjust their riding skills.

“This track gives riders the American experience because it’s on a hill and riders slope down,” Seki said.

“This track is going to teach riders how to balance their bikes when on a slope and climbing lane which is good for them.”

The event is set to prepare the organisers and riders for the fourth round of the national motocross championship to be hosted at the same venue.

Over 50 riders including Fortune Sentamu, Milton Akaki, Sekamwa brothers Noel and Larry, Kyle Musedde, the Omar brothers Waleed, Wazir, and Ali, Filbert Muwonge, and Katende Brothers Miguel and Jona have practiced on the track.

Meanwhile, a new mode of e-payment system called SS ticketing will be used for accountability purposes.
