Uganda's innovators display biotechnology products

Vice-President Jessica Alupo has said the new science, technology and innovation dispensation under the Office of the President will import dependency through product development and commercialization.
Her comments were delivered during the 5th Annual Biosafety Forum and Exhibition in Kampala.
It was themed: ‘Science, technology and innovation, and regulation for sustainable industrialization in Uganda’.
The Vice-President's comments were read by Dr. Monica Musenero, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.
She said the forum and exhibition celebrated the successes in biosafety stewardship and explored how this is related to science, technology and innovation and regulation in Uganda.
The exhibition took place at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
Alupo said that exhibition was intended to provide a platform to link biosafety and bioeconomy to national development.
The platform also provided an opportunity to understand the risk assessment and considerations for emerging technologies.
Dr Martin Ongolis the acting executive secretary of the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology.
He said the exhibition was organised for stakeholders to see the advances Ugandan scientists have made in biotechnology work, experiments in biotechnology, agriculture, and medical technologies.
Ongol said this will enhance thinking of channelling science, technology, and innovation towards national development.
