Ugandan holders of Kenyan national identity cards are being denied access to go and vote in neighboring Kenya.

Sources from sub-counties at the borderline with Kenya including Buteba, Eastern Division, Dabani, Masinya, and Majanji said Ugandan voters were being blocked from entering Kenya.

Kenya Defense forces (KDF) had deployed massively at the borderline in Busia north and South.

During a joint border security committee meeting held in Busia Kenya, Dr Ahmed Omar the county commissioner, Busia Kenya county reportedly said that all registered voters with national identity cards whether from Kenya or Uganda will be allowed to vote, according to Michael Kwibika, the Busia resident district commissioner who attended the meeting.

A Ugandan voter from Buyengo village at the borderline, in Dabani sub-county, Busia said, his group of 15 voters, that was crossing early in the morning to go and vote was blocked for two hours until consultations were made.

" This is not the official position of the government," said the voter who asked not to be named adding that the security was being used by candidates that fear that voters from Uganda are going to vote for their rivals, which he said was not the case.

However, other voters from Amungura which is separated by the road from Kenya in Buteba sub-county, said they had freely gone and cast their votes in Kenya without any disturbance.

Meanwhile  business remains normal and the border is calm with no major incidents.

Traffic flow from Kenya  had drastically reduced but trucks transporting  fuel from Kenya will be given express clearance at the border according to Kibwika.

Kibwika also says that both countries have harmonised the deployment plans to ensure that the border is safe and peaceful.

The RDC also said eight primary schools have been identified and designated as centers to host Kenyans in case there are incidents of post-election violence

The Ugandan media was denied access to Polling stations in Busia Kenya county.
