With eleven days to the FIM Motocross of Africa Nations, (FIM MXoAN) the International Motorcycling Federation (FIMA) inspectors have declared the Victoria Raceway Park Garuga track unfit for the continental event and recommended Busiika.

According to a report by Stewart Parkes and Sheldon Watkins, Garuga has several requirements lacking that need close to three months to be fixed to international standards, yet the event starts August 19 to 21.

The two officials who are members of FIM Africa (FIMA) noted that the Busiika track can complete the remaining requirements in four days.

They noted several requirements including the lack of toilets to accommodate the over 3,000 fans expected, a narrow track, a lack of a washing bay, and the narrow and bad start gate that is beyond repair.

It is against this report that FIM Africa has recommended Busiika and cautioned FMU that should the event fail, they will be required to pay compensation to the teams coming to Uganda and a fine.

“The sport is not about officials or the guests. We officials are elected and go, but the riders carry on. The tracks must be such that they do not invite injuries,” Marco Comana, FIM Africa president said in his letter.

“Should the federation refuse to use the FIM Homologated track, the event shall be canceled and face a fine equivalent to all accommodation, airfares, and motorcycle transportation of the five visiting teams,” he added. 

When contacted, the FMU deputy vice-president in charge of motocross, Kisitu Mayanja said that he is not aware of any communication, however, the FIM Africa chairman of motorcycling Joseph Mwangala said that they have got up to Saturday, August 13 to put in place all that is required.

Busiika ready

However, Busiika management has said they are ready to host the event and has put in place all that is required.
