Fishing industry staggers as Lake Victoria’s fish potential depletes

“The Kenyan fishermen overwhelm the waters with their huge numbers and use illegal nets like bungulubu (kokota) and Omoki, which is the worst. Omoki nets, originally meant for silverfish, are about 200 metres long and 50 metres deep. With the shallowness of Ugandan waters, these nets take everything, which is why you can hardly catch any fish here,” Bwire said.
