KAMPALA - The Member of Parliament for Entebbe Municipality, Shyaka Steven Gasheija, is one of those who have shown interest in the deputy speakership race.

Gasheija disclosed that the target is to return Parliament to the foundations and rebuild public confidence in the legislature.

Gasheija, who is an NRM cadre, is a lawyer by profession with an active legal background, especially in gaming and regulation, artificial intelligence and emerging space law.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has banned its members from holding campaigns for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

Addressing journalists on Saturday at the Party headquarters, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, said whoever is found campaigning or addressing members in hotels will be disqualified.

Odoi told journalists that during the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting in Entebbe, it was resolved that no candidate will be allowed to campaign, convene meetings of NRM MPs, processions or move in convoys.

However, Odoi said supporters may peacefully receive aspirants at the party headquarters as long as it does not turn into organised campaigning.
