Water supply in Gulu City and the surrounding areas has been disrupted due to a transformer fault at the Karuma Water Treatment Plant.

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) revealed that the power outage following the fault has affected the entire Gulu service area.

Ivan Tekakwo, the NWSC Public Relations Officer for Gulu, said emergency measures, including the use of generators and supply from the Oyitino plant, are currently in place to minimise the impact.

He added that the normal supply of about 14 million (10 million from Karuma and 4 million from Oyitino) litres per day has been reduced to 0.2 cubic litres as of Friday morning, due to the technical fault at Karuma, with operations now heavily relying on the Oyitino plant.

He asked the residents of Gulu City and the surrounding areas to use water sparingly until the situation is fully resolved.
