The Vice President, Jessica Alupo, will this evening, November 26, 2022, at 9:00pm address the nation to give updates on the current status of Ebola in the country.

A statement from Presidential Press Unit states that Alupo will address the country on the outbreak of Ebola on behalf of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who has just returned from a successful state visit to Vietnam.

“The Vice President, H.E Jessica Alupo, on behalf of H.E the President, will this evening at 9pm give a national address on the status of Ebola in the country. The address will be live on UBC, and other TV and radio stations. Please, tune in,” Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Faruk Kirunda, stated in a statement Saturday.

Ugandan authorities have been struggling to contain the highly infectious and deadly hemorrhagic fever since the epidemic was declared on September 20 after the death of a 24-year-old resident of Madudu sub-county in Mubende district.

The disease has spread to the districts of Kassanda, Kyegegwa, Kagadi, Bunyangabu, Wakiso, Jinja and Kampala.

Currently, according to the health ministry, the country has 141 cumulative confirmed cases; 55 confirmed deaths, and 79 recoveries.

The declaration comes after completion of 42 days of the post-EVD surveillance countdown period for the contacts of the last confirmed case, as per WHO requirement for declaring an end to an outbreak of any Viral Haemorrhagic Fever (VHF).

The Ebola virus spreads through all body fluids, including blood, semen, saliva, sweat, urine, faecal matter and vomit of infected individuals.
