UPDF releases list of shortlisted successful candidates

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, released a shortlist of successful candidates for the ongoing general recruitment exercise for 2026.
The acting Director Defence Public Information Officer, Col. Chris Magezi, said the lists are available on the official UPDF website (www.updf.go.ug) and at all respective city and district headquarters.
“Applicants are encouraged to check their names and confirm their status. The UPDF extends sincere appreciation to all Ugandans who applied but did not make it to the shortlist. Your willingness to serve your country reflects patriotism and discipline, values the UPDF holds in the highest regard. We encourage you to continue preparing for future opportunities to serve,” Magezi said in a statement.
Magezi congratulated the applicants who were shortlisted. “As you proceed to phase three (physical recruitment), which will commence soon at your respective cities and districts, kindly prepare the required documents and materials in advance: Handwritten application bearing recommendations from Local Council 1, 11, 111 and Gombolola Internal Securty Officer (GISO)/ District Internal Security Officer (DISO); Original National Identity Card/NIN; Original and copies of academic documents; and three colored passport-size photographs,” Magezi said.
Magezi said academic documents must be certified.
Magezi congratulated the applicants who were shortlisted. “As you proceed to phase three (physical recruitment), which will commence soon at your respective cities and districts, kindly prepare the required documents and materials in advance: Handwritten application bearing recommendations from Local Council 1, 11, 111 and Gombolola Internal Securty Officer (GISO)/ District Internal Security Officer (DISO); Original National Identity Card/NIN; Original and copies of academic documents; and three colored passport-size photographs,” Magezi said.
Magezi said academic documents must be certified.
He said the specific dates and schedules for phase three of the exercise will be communicated in due course through official UPDF channels.
“Recruitment into the UPDF is free of charge. No agents or intermediaries are involved. Any cases of fraud must be reported immediately to the nearest police station, DISO’s office, or UPDF unit. The UPDF remains committed to building a force anchored on Discipline, Patriotism, and Pan-Africanism,” Magezi stated.
Last month, the UPDF announced a massive, nationwide recruitment drive targeting 10,200 new personnel across all districts of Uganda.
The drive focuses on ordinary recruits with Uganda Certificate of Education and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education qualifications (especially those with science backgrounds) as well as highly skilled professionals (educators, medical personnel, engineers, lawyers, pilots, and musicians).
