Security has been beefed up in Kapeeka town, in the Nakaseke district following an attack that claimed the life of Private Obed Tufeeyo, a UPDF officer, who was shot while on patrol with the Police on Saturday night, (November 26, 2022)

Savannah region Police spokesperson Patrick Lule says security also managed to put two suspected assailants out of action during the fire exchange.

"We are working around the clock to ensure that we identify the deceased attackers because at least they are not known in the area according to the local residents," Lule said.

Police have also revealed that they managed to recover an AK47 rifle from the attackers, but no Police gun was robbed.

A Police source at the scene had told earlier told New Vision, that two Police officers had been killed and two guns were stolen, but Lule has ruled out this claim.

This is the third attack in the greater Luwero region in a space of five months. The first one happened in July 2022, when unknown assailants attacked Policemen who were manning a roadblock at Kiwumpa in the Luwero district on the Kampala-Gulu Highway.

They cut Police officer Josephat Twinamatsiko on the head and face while his colleague, Ronald Busingye, was cut on the back. The assailants also took off with their two guns. Unfortunately, Busingye later succumbed to the injuries at Luwero Hospital.

Using petrol, the attackers also set  ablaze a parked Fuso truck registration number UAR 301Z.

Another incident occurred at Busiika Police Station, where three police officers lost their lives and two guns were robbed.

Efforts to get a comment from the Police remained futile as our calls could not be picked up.
