Kabale University beat Bishop Stuart University 2-1 at home to register their first win of the campaign in Group C as the Pepsi University Football League raged on in Mbarara on Wednesday.

Kabale benefitted from a Martin Magezi own goal early on before Herbert Nirinjimana's penalty ensured the victory in between Peter Ahimbisibwe’s consolation.

Despite the win, it is Bishop Stuart on 6 points from four matches. Kyambogo University remains second on 4 points but with a better goal difference.

Bishop Stuart will now pray that the remaining fixture in the group between Kyambogo and Kabale ends in a stalemate to stand a chance, otherwise, any win for either team will mean them staying behind as only the top team in this group of three qualifies to the next round.

Elsewhere, Makerere University edged St. Lawrence University 1-0 through a Sadat Kasagga penalty to remain top of Group D with 6 points- from their 5 games.

Earlier, Uganda Martyrs thrashed Ndejje University 5-0 in Nkozi to seal qualification for the quarterfinals while Kampala University was also 3-0 winners over Gulu in the same group.

Joseph Kayondo, Sunny Kaija, Wesley Aguma, Ivan Agamire, and Henry Tumusiime ensure the victory for the Mpigi boys who top the group with 12 points.

Meanwhile, Kampala University finished second with 10pts after defeating Gulu University 3-0 in the other game played on Tuesday at Kibuli but will have to await the results from the other groups to see if they qualify as one of the two best Runners-Up in the groups of 4 teams.

Action in the league continues on Thursday with Makerere University Business School (MUBS) who have already qualified for the knockout stage of the competition hosting the University of Kisubi in Nakawa.
