One person died on spot, and another died upon reaching Kalangala Health Centre IV after an accident that happened in Kalangala district.

The accident happened after a Fuso-truck (registration number UAS 903Z) carrying matooke overturned on Mwena slope in Kalangala town council.

The deceased are the driver, Amon Ntalo, aged 45 and Aliya Mugisha, aged 40, all residents of Isingiro district.

However, three people survived with injuries. They include Joab Mubangizi, Deuson Tumusiime and James Kizza.

The survivors were referred to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for further management.

Eyewitnesses blamed the ongoing construction works on Kalangala-Mwena Road for the accident. They said whenever it rains, the road gets slippery.

“The road contractors have failed to place signposts on danger spots on the road. The cause of this accident is the halfway closed trench dug in the middle of the road,” said Ronald Tamuzadde.

Kizza, one of the survivors, narrated that the car failed to break while sloping to Mwena; the driver lost control, thus knocking an electric pole then the truck overturned.

The Police in the district confirmed the death of two people and said they were going to investigate the cause of the accident.
