A three-wheeled tractor also known as a trike is one the biggest attractions at this year’s UMA international trade fair taking place at the UMA show grounds in Lugogo, Kampala.

The trike that is being exhibited by the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovations will support small-scale farmers who may not be in a position to purchase a big machine offering the many services that a trike can offer.

According to the head of Mobility at the MoSTI Secretariat Allan Muhumuza, the trike, which was built in Uganda and uses a diesel-powered engine made in Uganda, can carry one tonne of goods from one place to another. The trike also has a pump that can pump up to 6,000 litres of water per hour, which can be used for irrigation.

Muhumuza added that the triker, which also comes along with a generator, can generate six kilowatts that can be used for lighting. With a diesel consumption of 3.7 litres per 100 km, the trike goes for shillings 28 million.

That is one of the innovations under the MoSTI tent at the ongoing international trade fair, which will close on October 10, 2023, under the theme Driving Manufacturing and Trade Efficiency Through Digital Transformation, Organised by the Uganda Manufacturer’s Association (UMA).
