Vice-President Jessica Alupo was Friday set to officially open a three-day health camp aimed at treating people with eye complications.

The health camp held in her hometown of Katakwi, got under way on Thursday (December 01), with medical experts examining the patients meant to undergo surgery and sufferers receiving drugs.

Eye surgeries in private facilities, which range from sh1.5m to sh3m, are expensive for ordinary Ugandans.

Alupo partnered with the Overseas Pakistan Global Foundation Africa to offer free surgeries to the people of Uganda.

Pakistan Global Foundation intends to offer free surgeries to 5,000 Ugandans with cataracts and other related eye complications as one way of giving back to Uganda which has offered them a safe environment for doing business for five decades.

Dr. Simon Ichumar, the Katakwi district health officer, said that the camp is open to all people in Teso.

Meanwhile, eye specialists urged cyclists to ride with sunglasses on as not doing so exposes them to getting cataracts.

Sikandar Iftikhar Cheema, the president of Overseas Pakistan Global Foundation Africa, says it also prevents insects and other objects flying into their eyes while riding.
