The Inspectorate of Government (IG) prosecutor Friday (October 21) told court that their detectives did not arrest the Mubende District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Robert Mulondo, because he is in isolation over Ebola.

Mawano Senoga informed the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo, presided over by Chief Magistrate Joan Aciro.

“The IG could not produce Mulondo in court because he is under quarantine over Ebola,” Senoga told the magistrate.

Mulondo and five others are battling charges of causing a financial loss of sh343m to the Government of Uganda in fictitious gratuity payments.

Others are Namutumba CAO Fred Mukasa Kizito, 51, Nebbi deputy CAO Emmanuel Ogwayu, 47, Kaliro chief finance officer Godfrey Mutome, 50, Kaliro district accountant Elizabeth Namugolo and finance ministry senior accountant John Wabwire.

Under Section 20 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Court Act, 2009 as amended, the offence of causing financial loss attracts a maximum sentence of 14 years imprisonment or sh6.7m fine, upon conviction.

This comes at a time when three individuals out of 60 in Mulago isolation facility tested positive for Ebola.

According to the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, these were contacts from a patient from Kassanda who passed on in Mulago hospital.

She said they will be transferred to the Entebbe isolation unit for treatment since Mulago unit still has 58 contacts under quarantine.

“Let’s remain vigilant and report anybody with symptoms similar to Ebola. Together we can end this pandemic,” Aceng stated in a tweet this morning.
