Rugby top sides Kobs, Heathens, Rhinos, and Stanbic Black Pirates made it to the Semi-finals of the Rwenzori Rugby Uganda Cup on Saturday.

The Stanbic Black Pirates put up a spirited fight to beat visiting side Plascon Mongers 33-23 in the Quarterfinal final of Rwenzori Rugby Uganda Cup quarterfinals at Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere.

The Pirates’ tactician Marvin Odongo, contends that despite a 33-23 win, some areas need to be fixed ahead of the semi-final on Saturday.

“Yes, we achieved our target of advancing to the semi-final. The boys were impressive but there are areas we shall fix before heading to the Saturday game,” Odongo said.

He noted that leading the first half by 25-8, in the second half they should have added more scores, but the laxity helped the opponents to close the gap creating more pressure on the team.

“We are ready for any opponent, but we are going to assess the injuries and then see if we need changes in the team,” he added.

Edgar Kairu of Mongers emerged as the man of the match dubbed the man with a difference by the sponsors Rwenzori.

In the other semi-finals Kampala old boys beat Jinja Hippos 34-11anad advanced to the semi-finals, Rhinos defeated Rams 25-5, and heathens saw off Buffaloes 22-8.
