LOSOLUBE - Operation Shujaa has unearthed two underground stores in Lusolube, one of the recently bombed major camps belonging to the terrorist Allied Democratic Front (ADF) in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Operation Shujaa is a joint assault by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC).

The UPDF and the FARDC were jointly deployed by Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni and his DRC counterpart, Felix Tshisekedi, some eight months ago to eliminate the ADF, who are linked to untold atrocities in Uganda and the DRC.

In a July 6 status report to the media, the Operation spokesperson, Maj Peter Mugisa, said the stores were discovered in areas of R. Semliki, Djelube and Lusolube confluence, which the joint ground and air forces had hit on July 2.

“The stores contained Kenyan, Tanzanian and Congolese camouflage uniforms, unestimated food stuffs, various items of domestic wares, mattresses of different types and sizes and 16 solar panels,” Mugisa said.

Other recovered items, said Maj Mugisa, included assorted drugs and medicines, two radio walk talkies, nominal roll books, a generator and solar panels and five Qurans.

Maj Mugisa added that the captured Lusolube camp used to be one of the springs used by the enemy who used “to cause mayhem” on various areas.

He said the ADF, backed by the Islamic State for the Central African Province (ISCAP/MTM) used to use it to attack Nobili in (Njiapanda), Luanoli, Kikura, Kamango, Musu, Bovata, Kombo, Bundiguya, Bugando, Mamanono, Masanza, Kikingi.

“The discovery of foreign camouflage uniforms reveals ADF foreign fighters backing them in terms of training and logistical support,” said Mugisa.

The discovery of the underground stores comes a few days after the joint forces came across a mass grave measuring 30 by 40 meters with estimated number of 100 to 150 decomposing bodies believed to be of the ADF.

The grave, was found after an artillery and combat helicopters bombarded and ADF stronghold in sector three on the confluence of River Djelube, Lusolube and Semliki.
