Nabakooba unveils eight USMID projects in Kamwenge

KAMWENGE | EIGHT PROJECTS | UNVEILED

Lands Minister, Judith Nabakooba, has today unveiled eight projects under Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development Program Project (USMID) aimed at boosting social services within Kamwenge district.

Kamwenge located in Western Uganda is home to many refugees who have since settled in the area.

"Today we welcome a total of 8 projects in your district which range from resource centers, market sheds, playfields, and roads," said Nabakooba during the breaking of the ground ceremony held on Wednesday, 30th November 2022.

According to Nabakooba, the project will have six different contractors doing the work concurrently in the interest of time.

Kamwenge is one of seven districts that have benefitted from the USMID program that will last for 13 months ending in December 2023.

Present at the ceremony were several political leaders including the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Frank Tumwebaze, Members of Parliament, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kamwenge as well as the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) plus the technical team.

The leadership of the refugee Community was also present to witness the groundbreaking as beneficiaries of these projects.

The 8 projects include the following; Bwitankanja-Nsonosa road, Burambira-Mikamba-Bwitankanja road as well as the Mutwe-Kyamwera road whose joint contract was awarded to Scol Civil Construction Company Limited all three projects are to cost  sh2.4b.

The playground at Nkoma-Katalyeba will be handled by Ocean Tech Holdings Ltd and will cost Ugx 3.1 billion to construct.

The other project, a resource center located along Nkoma-Katalyeba will cost Ugx 936.6 billion and its contractor is Kirimi Enterprises Ltd.

M/s Custom Engineering Ltd won a contract worth Ugx 3.2 billion for the construction of market sheds and a taxi park located within the Nkoma-Katalyeba Town council.

While Vesta Enterprises won the contract amounting to Ugx 803.2 billion to build a resource center at Nkoma sub-county.

Nabakooba appealed to Kamwenge's leadership to supervise the projects diligently and avoid any errors or mishaps which may delay or lead to the closure of the project.
