Stylish boxer Latib ‘Dancing Master’ Muwonge outclassed Tanzania’s Ally Mbukwa in their much-anticipated Africa Boxing Union (ABU) Super Lightweight title elimination fight.

The two tussled it out at New Club Obligato in Kampala along Bombo Road in the wee hours of Saturday morning with Muwonge looking to hold off Mbukwa whose mission was to avenge fellow Tanzanian Ali Mkojani’s defeat on December 10th last year.

During their weigh-in on Thursday, Mbukwa told Muwonge that he was to pay for the damage done to his brother when they finally entered the ring but the Ugandan Muwonge dominated him from the first bell to the last in the eight-round thriller.

Muwonge landed the most quality punches coupled with a combination of hooks, uppercuts and great footwork to earn a standing ovation from the crowd.

While Muwonge continued to press his advantage in the latter stages of the fight, Mbukwa resorted to absorbing a flurry of power shots from his rival.

By then Muwonge, a former national boxing team member, looked well on his way to victory and by now, he was displaying his eccentric side by incorporating dance moves into the fight.

The judges scored 80-72, 80-72 and 79-72 all in Muwonge’s favour.

Irene Ssemakula, a 2001 Cairo Africa Women Boxing Championship gold medallist and a World Boxing Council (WBC) certified referee was in charge of the thriller.

Muwonge's victory means he will vie for the ABU Super Lightweight title in a few months to come.

“I thank God for this sweet victory. I also commend my fans and family for their continued support of me because if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t make it this far,” he said.

“I’m glad we went for the entire eight rounds. I felt great since I was in my best shape compared to my last fight. I would have knocked out Mbukwa but he is a brave fighter. He was so calculative with his moves miles better from the last Tanzanian I fought,” he added.

In the six undercard fights, lightweight Power Jjunju unanimously defeated Muhammad Kasagga, Saddam Sserwadda battered a resilient Franco Makoba, bantamweight Salima Musubika defied all odds to defeat Rachel Musubika by a majority decision as was SFC featherweight Justine Okello over Frederick Okou.
