Museveni to open international oil and gas summit

The UIOGS will be the first largest gathering for players following the European Union Parliament's motion for a resolution to stop the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).

MUSEVENI | OIL | GAS SUMMIT

KAMPALA - President Yoweri Museveni will open the Uganda International Oil and Gas Summit 2022 (UIOGS) next week, taking place on September 27 - 28 at the Kampala Serena Hotel. 

The UIOGS will be the first largest gathering for players following the European Union Parliament's motion for a resolution to stop the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), citing human rights violations and the negative environmental effects of the project both in Uganda and Tanzania. 

The World Bank describes Uganda as the hottest inland exploration frontier in the world and the country to watch in the oil and gas sector due to the commercial discovery of an estimated 6.5 billion barrels of oil, 2.2 billion of which are recoverable. 

Attracting global attention across the industry, UIOGS is the most significant meeting for Uganda’s development plans. It is hosted by the Government. 

UIOGS brings together all prospecting oil majors, the ministry, the petroleum authority, the national oil company, lead service providers, contractors, investors, financial services, indigenous companies, law firms and every stop along the value chain. 

According to a statement, special keynote addresses by Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentumu, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development (Energy), Emmanuel Katongole, Board Chairman, Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), and Eng. Irene Pauline Batebe Okello, Energy Ministry – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.
