President Nyusi’s return visit follows President Yoweri Museveni’s three-day visit to Mozambique in May 2018.

Museveni visited the legendary Montepuez Barracks where he led 28 FRONASA youth in training in 1976.

Museveni’s trip to Mozambique was partly to thank FRELIMO (Mozambique Liberation Front) for its role in the liberation movements across the continent.

FRELIMO helped shape FRONASA (Uganda’s Front for National Salvation), which was part of the foundation of Uganda’s National Liberation Army (UNLA), National Resistance Army (NRA), and later the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), according to reports.

In 2018, President Museveni was accompanied by Gen Caleb Akandwanaho aka Salim Saleh, Lt Gen Ivan Koreta and Col Bosco Omule. They were the remaining survivors from the group of 28 freedom fighters Museveni led to Mozambique.
