New details have emerged about the man who is accused of killing his wife and spending four days with her corpse in a rented house.

Innocent Kibwetere, the accused, is said to have murdered his wife after discovering that she was on contraceptives, according to the Police in Kyegegwa district.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Kibwetere, a resident of Bujunjura, Twentuha sub-county in Kyegegwa allegedly hit his wife with a blunt object, which caused an acute brain injury that killed her instantly on November 11, 2022.

“The suspect became aggressive after learning that his wife, Ronious Twikirize, 25, had started using family planning, following an earlier miscarriage,” Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said.

Enanga was speaking to journalists during the joint security weekly briefing at the Uganda Police Force headquarters in Naguru, Kampala on Munday.

He said the unfortunate incident was reported to Kazinga Police, who responded and recovered the body of the victim and took it to Kyegegwa Hospital for a post-mortem.

The suspect was also arrested and subjected to a medical examination. He was found to be normal and well-oriented and is to be charged with murder.

“The incident above shows that there are people in society who have lost the sense of humanity and respect for others. We continue to advise partners in a toxic violent domestic setting to always seek help from the Child and Family Protection Unit at the nearest Police station, probation offices or NGOs advocating for family rights when it is still early,” Enanga said.

Family planning is the ability of individuals and couples to anticipate and attain their desired number of children and the spacing and timing of their births. It is achieved through the use of contraceptives, including condoms, intrauterine devices, implants, pills and vasectomy for men.

Things that may play a role in family planning decisions include marital situations, career or work considerations, and financial situations, among others.
