NEBBI - Residents of Nebbi town were left in shock after a driver of a pickup truck that was being exported to DR Congo was found dead in the car.

Nebbi District Police Commander Damian Katuryesime identified the deceased as 43-year-old Rajab Haruna Musa, a Kenyan National who was driving the new Toyota Hilux Pick-up truck, destined to the Democratic Republic of Congo through the Padea border in Zombo district.

The DPC said Police contacted the Pakwach Police checkpoint to track the deceased’s movement and confirmed that he left Pakwach at 7:22 pm on Monday.

Preliminary investigations indicate the deceased caught illness along the way that forced him to drive up to Nebbi to get treatment but failed to make it.

“This was a new vehicle supposed to be taken to DR. Congo and I think the driver was struggling to come out of the car to get medical attention because the key was found behind him together with the documents”, Said Katuryesime.

Police contacted the customs to inform the unit whose vehicle the deceased was driving and the body is currently at Nebbi General Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

The DPC advised people, especially drivers to seek medical attention whenever they don’t feel well while on transit, especially those plying long distances.

He said he has not ruled out the aspect of COVID-19 since the disease is still around though not as severe as earlier.
