You can recreate that luxurious and exuberant atmosphere you only experience in classy hotels in your bedroom. Yes, it is possible.

Below, we share ideas on how you can make your bedroom a haven of comfort.

Personal taste

When it comes to creating a spectacular bedroom, Phillip Luwemba, a designer in Kampala, says it all comes down to the taste of a person.

“Think of what you want to have in your bedroom. Have a theme that will guide you,” says Luwemba.

He advises that one needs to create a mood board to capture their imagination.

He notes that the board will guide you on what kind of hues you need to apply in your bedroom. “For instance, the paint on the walls of your bedroom and also the colour of your beddings.

Size of your bedroom

Luwemba says the size of your bedroom does not matter.

He notes that you can always arrange it in ways that render that dreamy hotel-like feeling.

“The space of your bedroom will determine which items you can have or not. If you think that some items such as the reading or television area might crowd the room, then it’s best to leave them out,” he tips.

He advises that one should take the advantage of having wardrobes and drawers to economise space by neatly tucking items away.

He added that one can also use the surfaces of the drawers as your reading or writing area to create space and avoid clutter.

The bed

The bed is the most important item in the bedroom. Therefore, great care should be taken when picking one.

Kallen Marani, a home designer in Ntinda, says that one should always consider buying a bed and its accessories, such as a coffee table, mattress, bed sheets and bedcovers.

Marani says cotton sheets are always preferred because they feel comfortable, refreshing and absorb heat when one is asleep. Instead of blankets, Marani advises one to use trendy duvets, throws and pillows.

Furniture

Besides the wardrobe and the bed, Mariam Kyomuhangi, a public relations officer at Vienna Golden Hotel, Masaka, says one will need a reading table and a sofa set where they can simply relax and be able to read something or take a cup of tea.

If you are lucky to have a balcony in your bedroom, she says you can add some furniture for a panoramic view.

Colour

For your bedroom to stand out, you shouldn’t use a singular shade. Luwemba says one should use three colours that harmonise and, at the same time, contrast.

“If the wall is white, then sculptures should be grey, to bring out the beauty of the place,” he says, adding that the colours “should evoke the emotions you want like happiness and tranquillity.”

Space

People love hotel quarters because as soon as they enter, there is that cool air that rubs against them. If they are stressed, they relish the quiet that they crave. Luwemba advises one to have that space warm, childish, playful or victorious.

The floor

Instead of walking on a cold floor, Kyomuhendo advises one to get fun carpets that can add beauty to it.
