Ebola spreads to two other districts as cases jump to 34

KAMPALA - The Ministry of Health has announced that the cumulative cases of Ebola have reached 34 since the first case was announced on Monday. 

However, the minister said the 34 cases include 16 that are confirmed while the 18 are probable. 

“Cases reported outside Mubende: 3 in Kyegegwa and 1 in Kassanda,” the ministry said adding: “No confirmed cases in Kampala as yet.”

The country announced the outbreak of Ebola on September 20, with the first victim being a 24-year-old male.

The Ebola virus is highly contagious and causes a range of symptoms including fever, vomiting, diarrhea, generalized pain or malaise and in many cases, internal and external bleeding. 

According to the World Health Organization, mortalily rates of Ebola are extremely high and the human case fatality rate ranges from 50-89%.
