Court summons pastor on terrorism charges

Prosecution alleges that the accused and others still at large on December 11, 2017 travelled outside Uganda for purpose of perpetrating, planning or participating in terrorist acts.

The accused persons were arrested in December 2017 on allegations of terrorism, establishment of a terrorism institution and forgery.

KAMPALA - The International Crimes Division of the High Court has summoned Pr. Geoffrey Musonyi to appear in court to answer charges of terrorism.

The court registrar, Stella Beatrice Atingu, on Friday (September 23) issued summons against Musonyi together with Daniel Kamara and Moses Bijura to appear in court on October 6, 2022.

The trio's co-accused, who are still on remand are Emmanuel Mugisha, Timothy Mukisa, Zanviye Tuyisenge Alias Mambo Ali, Olive Byakatonda alias Ojambo Kenneth, Bosco Maniriho alias Boyi alias Kigwe Robert and Innocent Ndayisenga alias Gashube. They were represented by defence lawyer Godfrey Turyamusiima.

“The accused persons are remanded until October 6, 2022 when they will re-appear in court for mention of their case,” Atingu directed.

The accused persons were arrested in December 2017 on allegations of terrorism, establishment of a terrorism institution and forgery.

In his affidavit, Mugisha says he was arrested on December 11, 2017 while travelling to Tanzania for a Christian fellowship and that he has been in detention to date.

Prosecution alleges that the accused and others still at large on December 11, 2017 travelled outside Uganda for purpose of perpetrating, planning or participating in terrorist acts or providing terrorists training for political, religious, social or economic gain without due regard to the safety of others.

It is further alleged that Musonyi, Kamara, Bijura and others still at large in various places forged documents, namely, 39 certificates of identity with intent to defraud.
