HOIMA - The diocese of Bunyoro-Kitara has commissioned 25 lay leaders of the third letter.

The commissioned lay leaders have been trained in theology for two years at Bishop Ruyindi Theological College in Hoima city.

The 25 leaders were awarded certificates during the service that was been held at St Peter's Cathedral Duhaga, in Hoima city and attended by Emeritus Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Stanley Ntagali and emeritus Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Nathan Kyamanywa, among others.

While presiding over the service, Bunyoro Kitara diocesan Bishop the Rt. Rev. Samuel Kahuma asked the men of God to be more effective ministers of God.

Kahuma also asked them to be mindful of ancient and modern biblical preaching of the Anglican Church of Uganda.

“We have equipped them with basic skills to go and serve the people and we expect them to remain committed to preaching the gospel of Christ.

I'm encouraged to see God calling new people, young men and women to serve in the Church of Christ in Bunyoro Kitara diocese, we are living in a changing world, but the message has not changed, we remain committed to the church,” Ntagali said.

Kyamanywa said such a day brings him memories of 1975 when his wife accompanied him in a gomesi she had got from a friend while he was also being commissioned.

The Rev. Can. Francis Mugisa, the diocesan secretary who was the preacher asked the new lay leaders to be diligent and eager to present themselves to God.

He also urged them to endure suffering and opposition.

Robert Owagonza, the head of the laity, on behalf of all Christians, committed to providing what is within their means to support the clergy.

Some of the commissioned lay leaders said they are ready to serve according to their calling.

Bunyoro Kitara diocese has 650 churches and 625 commissioned lay leaders.
