GULU - Thousands Sunday (November 20, 2022) graced the beatification of Fr. Dr Giuseppe (Joseph) Ambrosoli at Sacred Heart of Jesus Kalongo Catholic Parish in Gulu Archdiocese.

The mass was led by Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda Archbishop Luigi Bianco, assisted by Gulu Archbishop John Baptist Odama.

In his message, Pope Francis described blessed Fr. Dr Ambrosoli as a man of prayers who dedicated himself as a servant of God and worked hard to treat the poor of Acholi region in northern Uganda.

The Pope said Ambrosoli worked tirelessly in the Archdiocese of Gulu in Acholi land and left a legacy that everyone should emulate for their faith to grow.

President Yoweri Museveni attended the ceremony, saying he was happy to represent the government at the beatification of Fr. Ambrosolli and thanked Pope Francis and the Catholic Church for recognizing the special work he did in Uganda.

Museveni said religious missionaries started coming to Africa and although some were hypocrites, many were good including Fr. Ambrosolli who brought good messages to Africa and Uganda in particular.

The President also commended Fr. Ambrosolli for healing people, teaching the word of God and working in a remote place, leaving the comfort of his home in Italy although he was well qualified and would have chosen to work from home.
