Prof. Francis Omaswa has been installed as the first Chancellor of Soroti University.
He was installed by Vice President Jessica Alupo on Thursday at the university campus in Soroti City.
Prof. Omaswa is a medical icon in Africa having served in senior positions such as director of health services and the chancellor of Busitema University.
Soroti University of Science and Technology is the ninth public university and opened its doors to students in 2019.
Currently, there are 326 students studying degree courses that include Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Nursing Science and Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic and Computer Engineering.
Omaswa promised to steer the university to become one of the best in the world.
