Bukedde, through Bukedde newspaper, Bukedde FM, and Bukedde TV 1 and 2, has launched this year’s edition of its popular festive season promotion dubbed ‘Gabula Ssekukkulu Oluvuuto.’

This year, the promo is themed: “Empaaka Z’okufumba mu Gabula Ssekukkulu,” merging two campaigns where the Vision Group’s flagship Luganda brand gives back to its readers, listeners and viewers.

In ‘Empaaka Z’okufumba’ (Cooking Competitions), a team of Bukedde FM, TV, and partners traverses different markets across the greater Kampala metropolitan area, where market women groups prepare meals in a contest for the best cook.

During the promo launch at Vision Group head offices yesterday, the Bukedde newspaper editor, Mike Mukasa Ssebowa said ‘Gabula Ssekukkulu Oluvuuto’ is meant to appreciate readers for their loyalty. The promo has been on for eight years.

To stand a chance of winning the prizes, Bukedde readers will fill out a voucher, which is published daily on page 2, with their name, phone, and residence. They can give the filled voucher to the nearest vendors anywhere across the country or bring it to the Vision Group head offices at the first street, Industrial Area, Kampala.

Ssebowa explained that ‘Oluvvuto’ is a Luganda slang for a sumptuous meal,’ which they wish their readers, listeners, and viewers to enjoy this Christmas. The promo has a variety of prizes ranging from food items, drinks, clothes, and sanitary equipment to bicycles.

“Everyone that fills the couple has a chance to win. As usual, we shall do the draw to choose the winners transparently, on TV. We will also publish the names of the winners in the newspapers,” he said.

The promotion is sponsored by various companies including Chapa General Enterprise and Hariss International Limited.

Herbert Kabanda, Bukedde FM station manager, said the station will deploy a special agent who will go around to look for possible winners. The individuals who are found listening with a high volume for collective listening by people around will have automatically participated in the draw.

“The agent will ask a few questions that will make the listener stand a chance of winning the different prizes. The events will be broadcast live on the station,” he said.

Hampers up for grabs

For Bukedde TV 1 and 2, presenter Dorah Namala said, once a viewer watches Philly Bongley Lutaaya’s song titled Ssenkukkulu Eyasooka playing, they should call the station via 0414337871, to stand a chance of winning. Prizes will be given out in the last week towards Christmas, on December 25.

Yasin Kazibwe, a sales executive at Chapa General Enterprise, which sells Prestige Margarine, said the participants in this promo will not only have a chance to win a hamper containing each of their products but also learn their usage.

He also highlighted that besides winning, viewers with talents in cooking should follow the events on TV to learn new skills.

Comfort Ahumuza, the public relations assistant at Hariss International Limited, thanked Vision Group for initiating the promo, saying it correlates with their goal of bringing the family together through the range of products such as Oner Juice.

Nankya Catering Services will judge the cooking competition. Josephine Naisanga, who represented the company, said among other parameters, the hygiene of the participants will be highly considered.

Aisha Nakata, a representative from Wandegeya Market, said the team is ready for the competition, where they will showcase not only their skills but also a variety of local foods that they always sell to their customers.

10 markets will participate in the cooking competitions and the best five will be chosen for special prices.

The schedule for ‘Empaka Z’okufumba’ will start on November 29 with Lufula Market on Old Port Bell road, before they produce to Markets of Kajjansi, Katwe, Wandegeya, Namawojolo, Owino, Najjembe, Nakasero, Lukaya, and Gayaza Kitetika.
