“Universities need to share a common set of values that will excite students and faculty members to want to work together,” Pippenger said, urging them to be transparent with one another to collaborate, grow and succeed together.

“In being honest in strength and weaknesses, partners can find spaces for innovation for common ground, for ways of helping one another, in strengthening each other’s weaknesses,” he said.

She added that the late Prof. Kajubi travelled to the U.S. in 1952 as a Fulbright student to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Chicago and returned to make great contributions to the education sector in Uganda and the region.

“His two-time tenure appointments at the helm of this university demonstrate his outstanding leadership ability. Moreover, Professor Kajubi did not limit himself to education alone; he went on to serve as a delegate to Uganda’s Constituent Assembly which created the new constitution in 1995, among other things,” Brown said, adding that Kajubi's legacy of service to his country remains an inspiration to generations of faculty and students alike.

First deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Umar Kakumba was also in attendance.

Principal College of education Prof. Anthony Mugaga hailed Kajubi for not staying in the USA but decided to return home and contribute to his country, citing the Kajubi pot 1999 and the Government White Paper 1992 that reviewed the education policy.

“It is very hard for a student in the college of education to write a paper and not quote any of those two documents,” Muggaga said.

In addition, Muggaga hailed the late Prof. Kajubi for paving way for other students.
