Gov’t in advanced stages of expanding internet connectivity, says Baryomunsi

To enable continued learning of children through the online platform, Baryomunsi said the government is in the advanced stages of expanding internet connectivity and digital space to all parts of the country.

On Tuesday, October 26, the minister for information and Technology launched the UNICAF University.

Located at Ntinda 2 road, Ntinda Kampala, the University facilities are designed to offer both face-to-face teaching as well as E-learning (online) via the cutting–edge virtual learning environment.

Speaking during the launch at Kampala, the University’s Vice-Chancellors   Professor George Nasinyama said with the disruptions created by the COVID-19 pandemic, online learning is increasingly becoming well known and popular.

“It is even regarded as an efficient way of imparting knowledge and skills to students who live in urban centers and those in rural areas,” Nasinyama said.

He further noted that learning technology caters for people who are caring for both the young and old.  It even comes in handy for those working and who cannot be away.

Baryomunsi said virtual teaching and learning is a revolution that we must embrace.

“Through digital interface and communication, people can now study in universities and graduate without being there physically,” Baryomunsi said.

To enable continued learning of children through the online platform, Baryomunsi said the government is in the advanced stages of expanding internet connectivity and digital space to all parts of the country.

This, according to Baryomunsi will enable students to study online anywhere and people to conduct business without necessarily traveling to Kampala.

Uganda has a total of 54 universities and of those, only nine are public. The remaining are privately owned and managed in which UNICAF University now falls.
